What is Rush about?
Sixteen-year-old Miki Jones’s carefully controlled life spirals into chaos after she’s run down in the street, left broken and bloody. She wakes up fully healed in a place called the lobby—pulled from her life, pulled through time and space into some kind of game in which she and a team of other teens are sent on missions to eliminate the Drau, terrifying and beautiful alien creatures. There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says that the game is more than that, and that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn’t. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.
What type of reader will love Rush?

Who is the main character? What does he or she want or what is his or her biggest struggle to over come?
Miki Jones just wants to figure out how to find her new normal after the death of her mother. But her life’s anything but normal when she’s sucked into a game where she has to hunt aliens or be hunted by them—all the while balancing the life or death struggle with her regular high-school life. “So what’s the game now? This or the life I used to know?”
What movies or other books would you compare Rush to and why?
For books, I’d say Ender’s Game because of the gaming elements and the way the main character is left in the dark by those who are in the know and must struggle for answers even as they struggle to survive. Divergent and Hunger Games for the action (though the plot is in no way similar). The graphic novel Fray: Future Slayer. And a couple of my adult sci-fi books that were originally released under the name Eve Kenin (and are now available as Eve Silver): Driven, Hidden because they were high action with a thread of romance and I loved writing them so much I wanted to create a YA book with a similar vibe. I’d also add some video game inspiration to the mix: Mass Effect, Halo, Call of Duty, Bioshock.
What plot line drives the story?
Action. Adventure. Sci-fi. Some mystery because the main protagonist has no clue what’s going on and the reader discovers the clues right along with her. A thread of romance.
How is Rush different than other books in the same genre?
While this book is sci-fi, it isn’t post-apocalyptic or dystopian. It is set in the contemporary world at a regular high school as well as various gaming settings. Also, this book does not involve an overt alien invasion of the planet. The alien encroachment is subtle. Most people have no idea they’re coming. But they’re out there, just a breath away.
Does your book have romance in it? If so how important is it to the story?
Yes the book has some romance, but no love triangle. The romance is important to the story but not the sole element, and it is not the driving force of the book. It’s an action/adventure/hero’s journey book at heart.
Is Rush part of a series? If so what are the other books (in order) in the series and will there be more?
Yes. RUSH is the first book in The Game series. The second book, PUSH, will be out n June 2014, and the third book, CRASH, in June 2015.
If your book is part of a series, should readers read the books in order?
Ideally, readers should read the series in order for the full impact of Miki’s wild ride as she discovers exactly what the game is about. But a reader who picks up book 2 first won’t be completely lost. I just feel it won’t be as much fun for them.
If your book is part of a series, what makes it a series?
The series has the same protagonists throughout. Also, each book takes the reader deeper into the game and peels away layers of information to reveal new clues as to what the game is all about.
